In classical brushed DC designs, the copper winding is wrapped around an iron core. While effective for basic loads, this structure introduces magnetic drag ("cogging"), iron losses, and high rotor inertia. Coreless (or slotless) DC motors redefine efficiency by utilizing a self-supporting, skew-wound copper coil as the rotor.
